Zadok the priest

Nowadays, the Coronation Anthems („Krönungshymnen“) are generally understood to encompass the works that Georg Friedrich Händel composed in 1727 on the occasion of the coronation of the English King Georg II. They consist of four parts: ‘Zadok the priest’, ‘Let thy hand be strengthened’, ‘The king shall rejoice’ and ‘My heart is inditing’. ‘Zadok the priest’ is probably the best known one of the Coronation Anthems. The text from the 1^st Book of Kings tells of the anointment of Solomon by the Priest Zadok and the Prophet Nathan and of the people’s rejoicing. The general public knows this music mainly as the hymn of the UEFA Champions League.

Unter Coronation Anthems  („Krönungshymnen“) werden heute im allgemeinen die 1727 von Georg Friedrich Händel komponierten Werke zur Krönung des englischen Königs Georg II. verstanden. Sie bestehen aus vier Teilen: "Zadok the priest", "Let thy hand be strengthened", "The king shall rejoice" und "My heart is inditing".
